The Vermaak family have been involved in dog sports for many years and both Karen & Roché attended the IFCS Agility World Championships in 2006. Kayla Vermaak has grown up in the agility arena and Roché’s older daughters, Mauriza and Minequie have both competed successfully in agility, with several dogs. Roché and Karen are both Agility judges. Roché has trained and handled dogs most of his life. To see his Canine CV  click on the link. Karen runs  Doggy Heaven, a Border Collie Rescue and has re-homed many dogs in need of a second chance.

Roché’s passion is Flyball and he is the Managing Director of SAFDA (South African Flyball Dog Association) Once again his family are involved and run dogs in Flyball as well.  Roché is looking to start an X-Treme  Dog Sport division under the SAWDA umbrella. Maryna’s  (2nd from left) club started literally out of her love for dogs and her new “hobby” : agility.  She got married and had to move to Stellenbosch, and working in Cape Town made it very difficult to still train in Pinelands .

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Boland region is headed up by Roché Vermaak . There are two training clubs in the region, one is Boland  Dog Training Club which is run by Roché and Karen Vermaak,  in Worcester. The other is Vineyard Dog Agility, run by Maryna Cilliers, in Stellenbosch.

 

Maryna met a wine maker, Ian Naude, of Dornier Wines who is a huge Border Collie fan and is extensively involved at the SPCA in Stellenbosch. He wanted Maryna to start agility in Stellenbosch and offered a field in the vineyards at Dornier Wines, which he would maintain for her.

Maryna decided to live her passion and started the club. Word got out and soon she had 4 Border Collies, belonging to the winemakers and farmers. These were quickly followed by other handlers with different breeds. She says “ I am very proud of my club and members, who are always willing to help and are all passionate about agility.
